This 2016-2017 school year marks my 16th year of teaching! The first 4 years of my career I taught in a combined 1st-3rd grade classroom, the last 12 years have been devoted to ECE and Kindergarten. I've spent the last 5 years teaching Kindergarten within DPS at Bromwell Elementary, and this will be my first year at Brown. My background is in Montessori Education where I have embraced the underlying philosophical beliefs: following the child, differentiating instruction, promoting independence, fostering curiosity, and encouraging a life-long love of learning. In 2000, I received my Bachelor's Degree at Metropolitan State College of Denver, majoring in Psychology & minoring in Elementary Reading. In 2012, I received my Master's Degree at the University of Denver in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Gifted Education. I am delighted to be implementing the International Baccalaureate PYP curriculum and to be part of this amazing community here at Brown!

I love reading (especially children's literature:), running, rowing, hiking, dancing, creating, cooking, gardening, and learning. My husband, Jason, our three children, and I are all Colorado Natives. My son, Drake, is 21 and lives up in Boulder. My twin daughters, Kaylia & Kaitlyn, are 14 and will be attending East High School this year as Freshmen. They often come to visit and volunteer in the classroom. We have a Chocolate Labrador named Shadow Fax. She is 4 years old and is the spoiled baby of the family, keeping all of us busy and active! We spend much of our time attending school functions & activities and enjoying the beautiful outdoors in Colorado with friends and family.

The best way to connect with me is via email and I will make every effort to respond in a timely manner, usually within 24 hours during the week. If it is a time sensitive issue or an emergency please call the main office directly. Please contact the attendance line if your child will be absent or tardy, but I also appreciate an email as well. I look forward to learning and growing with your child this year!

Kind Regards,
Tara Hammond
